Rising above the city of Swansea stands an imposing structure. The striking 60 metre tower and accompanying 8 storey brick building sits right in the heart of this vibrant city. While this building is set in the most convenient place for the residents, the site provided many challenges.
Surrounded by some of the busiest roads in Swansea, next to the railway station and overlooking the Bristol Channel this is a challenge in acoustic control and weatherability. The need to provide a 24hr quiet living and sleeping environment does not make you think of natural ventilation through the windows. However that was the ventilation strategy and the main contractor and their window partner A.B. Glass knew where to go. Brookvent worked with the design team to develop a product that would suit this incredibly demanding accommodation site. The Ultima window vent provides great natural airflow combined with up to 47dB of acoustic attenuation.
The accommodation building was completed in 2021 and now houses 790 students living in quiet well ventilated luxury accommodation. A stunning success for this stunning design.
